BACKSTORY

House Aurelianos held a quiet place among Mariza's nobility. It rose generations ago through disciplined service and modest trade, beginning with Servius Aurelianos and his half-elven wife, Octavia. Never powerful, never flashy, the Aureliani maintained their station through reliability -- offering soldiers to the city's wars and keeping stable ties in Mariza's ever-shifting web of merchants and minor politics.

By the 1630s, the family was steady but vulnerable. Valerius Aurelianos, a veteran of Mariza's military campaigns, oversaw the household with his wife, Lady Serephina. Their elder son, Lucian, and his younger brother Cassian both served in the Red Fist -- Mariza's standing military force and symbol of civic loyalty. It was an honorable path for sons of a house with little fortune to offer but its name and its service.

In 1638, everything collapsed. Lucian struck Caius Argentus, a fellow noble and member of the Red Fist. The cause was disputed -- some whispered of long-standing personal conflict -- but the consequences were swift. House Argentus seized the moment. Using the incident as a spark, they unleashed a calculated smear campaign, one clearly planned in advance. Rumors spread: that Lucian was a bastard, that Serephina had broken her vows, that Valerius had hoarded spoils from his campaigns. Truth no longer mattered -- only the narrative.

Allies withdrew. Merchant ties broke. Official protections eroded. Within months, House Aurelianos stood alone. Then, in 1639, their estate burned. Lady Serephina died in the fire. Valerius and Cassian vanished from the city soon after, fleeing in silence. Lucian, disgraced and cast out, disappeared from Mariza not long after -- leaving behind the ashes of his home and the wreckage of his name.

He hasn't stayed in the Spire for long. At one point, he left entirely--driven out not by exile, but by what he’d become. Somewhere along the way, he turned into someone he couldn’t stand to be, and rather than face it, he walked away. Now he's returned, not the same man, but not entirely different either. He's trying--quietly, stubbornly--to regain control, to be something better than what he was, even with the weight of his vampiric nature still clinging to him.

Along with that, he abandoned the name Lucian. It was his father's name for him, tied to expectations, to control, to a life that no longer fits. Now, he goes by Niklaus--the name his mother once wished to give him, before it was denied. It’s not just a change of name, but a small, deliberate step toward choosing who he is for himself.

- Niklaus Artlianos -

𓃦 FRIEND. Icarus "Icky" Lyall.
A friend -- more like a brother. I'd trust you with anything except fashion choices. We've had our ups and downs. I met you when you couldn't beat me, and now you’re an absolute maniac -- and it's bloody fun to watch.

𓃦 FRIEND. Sigurd "Siggy".
A great bloke -- good to laugh with, good to drink with, and, most importantly, a damn good one to fight against, or with. You're a good friend, mate, practically a brother. Strange, really, how similar our pasts are.

𓃦 SISTER. Blythe "Bly".
Someone I've known since the moment I arrived here -- you've stood beside me through every high and every low. You've become more family to me than my own blood, more than my brother, more than my father. There's nothing I wouldn't do for you, Blythe.

𓃦 FRIEND. Grist "Old man" Nackle.
Grist, I always told myself never to underestimate old people -- and you're living proof of why. Outside of battle, you're a riot to talk to, always tossing out some kind of hilarious remark. It's brilliant!

𓃦 FRIEND. Ofelia "Offy" Dumont.
Truth be told, I don't like you. You're tied to the worst parts of me--the moments when I felt myself slipping into someone I despised. I thought I'd finally broken free from you... but I was wrong.

𓃦 FRIEND. Marionette "Mari" Vex.
I'm sorry it didn't work out -- it just didn't feel right to me. I'm really glad we can still be friends, though.

𓃦 FRIEND. Cinismir "City-smear".
We haven't spoken much, but I still consider you a friend. When we do talk, it's always a good time -- and holy shit, you're terrifying with a blade. It's a bloody riot to watch.

𓃦 FRIEND. Edvard "Ed-vah" Rosson.
You’re an alright bloke -- easy to talk to, good for a laugh, and someone I'd honestly like to get to know better down the line.

𓃦 FRIEND. Mulrath "Mully".
Mulrath -- a man I first wrote off as a complete piece of shit. Then I actually got to know you, and you turned out to be a solid guy -- someone I'm genuinely glad to call a friend.

𓃦 FRIEND. Valadra "Val" Reeyz.
You're a bit odd -- awkward, even -- but still bloody funny. And fighting you? Always a blast. Watching our lightning intertwine, like it's got a mind of its own, battling just as hard as we are... it's something else.

𓃦 FRIEND. Crow "Bird-boy".
My boss, technically -- but more a good friend. I always appreciate the praise you give my weapons, and I'll never say no to joining you in a fight or just a good chat.

𓃦 DISLIKED. Falliren Rytelus.
I apologized for who I was -- I was an angry man. Despite that, you still chose to say what you said. You still chose to see me as a threat, even when I tried to earn your trust. You still see me as tainted.

𓃦 NEUTRAL. Waylon Van Hey.
I'm sorry for blackmailing you into turning me into a vampire. You're a good kid -- even if you did threaten to rip my face off. I still understand the road you were forced down, and I don't hold it against you.

𓃦 FRIEND. Eorven "Farmer boy".
You're a shy bloke, but I enjoy talking with you all the same. Maybe one day you'll break out of that shell of yours, farmer boy.
